Point of view:

First person is the narrator is the character.  Pronoun use is first person such as I, me and my.  The narrator tells the story and includes things only the first person would know like thoughts and feelings.

Third person is there the narrator is outside the story.  It is someone telling the story that is not in the story.  Pronoun use are words like he, she or they.  Third person omniscient know ALL the characters and their feelings and thoughts.  Third person limited know the thoughts of only one character.

Plot is a series of events in a story.  The center of a plot is the climax.  The climax is a problem or struggle in the story.  It often triggers an action or event.  Most stories have stages.  1.  Exposition which is background and introducing characters.  Conflict may be introduced here. 2.  Rising action is events that develop and intensify.  3. Falling action is an easing of easing of tension and events that unfold due to the conflict.  4. Resolution is the final part and tells how the conflict is solved.

Suspense is a feeling of growing tension and excitement that makes a reader curious about what is going to happen.  It is what keeps us reading.

Rhyme scheme is the pattern of  rhymes in a poem.  It can be end rhyme, end word rhymes, or internal rhyme, the rhyme is in the middle. It is identified by assigning a letter to each line in a poem.  Lines that rhyme have the same letter.  Aabb means that the first lines rhyme and the next two rhyme.

A stanza is a group of two or more lines in a poem.  Repetition is repeating words, sounds, phrases or lines. A couplet is a rhymed pair of lines.  The speaker of a poem is who is speaking.

Main Idea is the most important idea about the topic.  Purpose is the intent or reason someone is writing what they are writing. 

Technical terms are words or phrases that are used in a particular profession or field of study.  Visual elements are things you see and can be stills or animation.  Sound elements include what you hear and could be music or narration.

A central idea is the main idea.  To cite evidence or cite information is to find the information within the reading or within a resource.  You use that information to write or answer questions.

A heading is a title that identifies the topic.  A subheading is within an article and is a kind of title.  A sidebar is additional information that is usually in a box alongside or within an article.

Context clues are hints about the meaning of an unknown word that may be found in the words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs that surround that unknown word. 

Standard English is correct English.  Dialect is a form of language that is spoken in a particular region by people who live there. 

Pronouns take the place of a noun.  They can be subjective, which is used in the subject part of the sentence or objective which is used as an object of a verb or preposition.  They can be singular or plural.  A subject noun is part of a compound subject and an object pronoun is part of a compound object.

Commas are used to separate words, phrases or clauses.  They can be used to set off nonrestrictive elements.  A nonrestrictive element is a phrase or clause that can be removed from the sentence without changing the sentence’s meaning.  Dashes can be used to set off nonrestrictive elements and are used more than commas in that case.
